Sea Chicken Star Wars
The Tuna is strong in this one.
There was a great disturbance in the Force when Japanese canned food producer Hagoromo Foods, one of Japan’s most famed producers of ‘sea chicken’ tuna fish in a can, broadcast the below “Star Wars” sea chicken commercial back in 1978.
Using the Force, Hagoromo Foods seems to suggest that the galaxy far, far away would have found peace if only they had the opportunity to indulge in a bit of Hagoromo canned tuna together. Incidentally, the hit film “Star Wars” had opened in Japan the same year that the sea chicken commercial was broadcast.
I wonder if the commercial is a complete rip-off or back in 1978 George Lucas got a silent cut for it and just thought that nobody outside of Japan would ever see it.

Weird Japanese Commercial

The characatures of all the Star Wars blokes are priceless and ineffably cute. C-3p0′s beeping and even the voice in the background screaming “Shi- Chikin!” in the background. I wonder if Lucas used this as inspiration for creating the Ewoks later on..?
Very true man! Can definitely see the Ewok angle. I like how chewbacca jumps midway through the vid and screeches like a monkey rather than the usual chewie growls and grunts.
Man, that’s classic!!
I bet G.Lucas was so busy getting famous that this mighta never crossed his radar? OR he got a cut
My guess is that Mr Lucasfilm took a less than modest cut thinking that it would never see the light of day in the West but after the mega success of the franchise he looks back with minor regret whilst he rolls around naked in room full of glistening gold coins like McScrooge.
